Life’s Moment at 4am

I live on a very busy street and it’s hard to find the quiet to hear nature at any given point. Even the tractor trailers, dump trucks and the big rigs for the electric company go by at all hours of day and night without warning. I do not live where nature’s quiet whispers can be found easily or at the ready. At least not until this one particular morning.

June 21st I was up at 3am to get ready for going to an Annual Conference in Massachusetts. I was waiting for my ride (one of my pastors) and I decided to go out a bit early and enjoy a cup of coffee on the little but adequate porch. Traffic as usual but there was something different about it this morning.

There were long breaks in between spurts of vehicles and I could hear the whisper of the trees in the breeze and about four or five different birds singing as daylight was about to break the mountain top of Mt Wantastiquet across the Connecticut River. Every time the break in traffic came and the trees whispered and the birds could be heard I got goosebumps. My heart was dancing to the “music” and I felt alive and joyful.

It was a touch of God’s grace and I kept that with me all day.

My trip to the conference was one I thoroughly enjoyed and I think I can say that God’s grace those early morning moments, the music of nature of His creation that had so much to do with it. I felt just as alive that day as those trees and birds did at 4am.

When I need a fresh start to my day, a touch of God in my ears, and a dance in my heart, I grab my coffee and sit on the porch at 4am.

God is amazing!
